Isla Salango
Salango Island is located southwest of the district and 20 minutes south of Puerto Lopez. It comprises 200 hectares and is a natural refuge for native birds such as pelicans, seagulls, blue feet, etc.
Historically Isla Salango was the most important ceremonial center cosmo-six pre-Columbian cultures (Valdivia, Machalilla, Chorrera-Engoroy, Bay, Guangala, Manteña) of the Ecuadorian coast. They extracted the famous Spondylus shell to offer it as a sacrifice to their gods.
