Isla de La Plata
Considered one of the most important parts of the Machalilla National Park with an area of 1200 hectares. Currently, La Isla de la Plata, has built two paths of nearly 3 km long hike leading to a time of about 3 hours.
Isla de la Plata is named because it was a refuge for pirates and privateers. Who used the island as a strategic point to attack the Spanish galleons carrying gold, silver and other metals.
In this La Isla de la Plata it is one of the centers most important nesting seabirds in the region. Such as blue-footed booby, masked and red-footed, frigates, albatross, tropical birds and sea lions.
Another attraction of La Isla de la Plata is the practice of water sports such as snorkeling or scuba diving. This occurs because its coast is protected by coral reefs. Likewise, in the months of June to September, it is the sighting of humpback whales traveling from Antarctica to mate and give birth to new calves
